An Update to *That* Game I'm 'Working On'

June 26th 2007 12:39
Given code doesn't look very appealing when it comes to showing off the fruits of my labor I figure some random screenshots of the game might look a bit better despite my abilities as a 3D modeller are actually worse than my abilities as a programmer.

So you're looking at it and thinking 'gee thats dull', and yes, I agree, not until I can find someone who can do this sort of stuff will it get any less dull, best I can do with my lacking artistic talents.

Also it might look half completely, but it isn't half complete, the view is going to be sideways (like in Super Mario), the 3D back drop is for prettiness and some gameplay elements that I'm planning on integrating much later into development.

What you need is some kickass game music, like this:

Your gameplay can't be this bad!!

hahaha, ET, the classic 'worst game ever', nearly bankrupted atari.

I very much doubt I'll let the gameplay get that bad

nah,more, much, much more

see, ET could hav been a masterpiece, it failed because it didn't have enough holes. So the more holes the better

3d games are hard work.
I did similar things in Macromedia Director.
A lot of coding to understand but I manages to get gravity, fog and collisions working ok.

C is not my forte, in fact I hate the bloody stuff(all that tiresome compiling).
The Unreal game engine is very tweekable and can import models constructed in 3ds Max or Lightwave as meshes.

There is another low budget game engine called Game Level Builder that is reasonably easy to use. Yet it wont forgive mistakes and you can easily lose several hour of work.

Good luck with the game.

And Yoda what the crap was that ET thing?

I'm actually buidling *most* of it from the ground up, while I could use a game engine (something like OGRE would be neato) I'd rather just make something from the ground up, partly because I don't want anything too powerful and partly because I want to make something powerful, or something that will become powerful in the very distant future.

C sucks, as a language I think the only reason it picked up was because of its varied applications, I'm just dealing with it for now because of uni . MOving to C# next, after this game, which should be good
