Apple 'Embarasses' Microsoft? Give Me a Break
August 12th 2007 05:07
Apples latest iWork 08 suite supports loading and writing to Microsofts own standard OOXML formats. Big deal? No, not really, you have to support a format that has a good chance of becoming an industry standard. This format is already supported in Microsoft Office 2007.
So why is it embarrasing for Microsoft? Because MS Office for OS X does not support OOXML. Big deal? You might think so, except for the fact the last Mac Office from Microsoft was released in 2004 and the next one isn't due until 2008.
I don't understand why Analysts make up crap the way they do, I guess it's for the attention. Most fanboys love to bash MS every chance they get, even when completely unjustified and false.
No it isn't embarrasing, it's just normal for Microsoft to not care about updating their Office suite for OS X when it sells well even though it's three years old.

Open Document Format.
www.openoffice.org - Windows and anything with X11
www.neooffice.org - OSX Aqua
Of course, OOo doesn't include any sort of groupware (In MS case: Exchange) integration like MS Office but standalone it does it's job well and can read and write open standard documents wonderfully. As for closed standards just some formatting correction is needed. ODF is showing up in a lot of interesting office solutions too.
