Beryl VS Compiz
January 5th 2007 05:28
It was only a matter of time before the open source community turned in on itself. Almost.
A member of the Compiz community in a fit of frustration went and hacked into Beryl’s mySQL database and had deleted wiki and the various Beryl related blogs.
Beryl has the right to sue this hacker, what will become of this, who knows? Will the hacker be made an example of or will he be left off? Well that's up to the people he attacked, which includes the blog owners and the people working on the upper level of the Beryl Project.
The people from the top level of Compiz collaborated with Beryl to catch the hacker, it was a one off stunt by a deranged person, there is no mass open source war going on. However it seems more and more likely it will happen eventually.
Anyway, doom and gloom aside, lets look at what both Beryl and Compiz have to offer, both are great projects after all.
Compiz and Beryl are both open-source projects to enhance the Linux UI, and honestly they're both doing mighty fine jobs.

However, from the compiz video is seems a bit sluggish. I know my heavy built overclocked with watercooling system will take any demands that compiz has to offer, but I wonder how netbooks would do.
