Aussies Have a Sense of Humor, Boston Based Americans... don't?

February 4th 2007 16:25
I know, I know, were ‘sitting ducks’ for a terrorist attack, we are all going to be bombed by anthrax lest we start putting innocent people in jail with no reason, the terrorists have already won because we do not want to legalize torture, and most importantly, we know what a joke is, that makes it the biggest problem.

While a simple marketing campaign in the US city of Boston turned into a fiasco that shut down the city for an entire day in Australia two fellers by the names of ‘Al Kayda’ and ‘Terra Wrist’ who bought boarding tickets were taken with a grain of salt.

(checkout how she throws a bit of a chuckle reading it, not freaking out, just recognizing the obviousness of the joke)

The biggest threat to a free safe world is not terrorists, it’s stupid panicking dangerous idiots, were safer here in Australia than Americans are up in America because here in Australia we will not shutdown an entire airport because of one mans name.

Whats becoming of this world? Why are people so jumpy? Theres a better chance you'll be run over by a car, a significantly better chance, than being blown up by a terrorist. You know, when you go looking for trouble you'll get trouble, when theres no trouble theres no where that we should go. Isn't it about time we dump this stupid mentality we have of being afraid of everyone and anyone?

I think we can safely conclude that in the not too distant future the same people advocating 'tighter security' and torture among other things, basically the neo-cons of our times will be remembered as Nazi's come the next fifty years. How do you think Hitler gained momentum? Fear of something there needs to be no fear of, of a certain group of people that were delibrately misunderstood.

So thats what we learn from our history isn't it? That we will never learn, never ever, we will just keep going in circles.

Finally, a word *for* the wise;

"It's almost too easy to be a terrorist these days... You stick a box on a corner and you can shut down a city."

Yes they do, so why close off airports because of simple jokes?

Hmmm, the histories I'd read glossed over how the Jews in Germany had killed thousands of people in various attacks.

To me the whole punch line was that the ad campaign had nothing to do with terrorism; someone saw wires and a battery and called in a bomb report. I'm afraid that the two guys who set up the boxes will be made the fall guys for their superiors. Turner Broadcasting owns Cartoon Network and CNN; since the story was the top news of the day someone should have made the connection and explained to the Boston authorities before it all got out of hand.

Apparently Adult Swim paid a few million dollars for the so-called terrorist hoax, so yeah, price was paid.

The people who put them there, not so sure about, I thinkt hey were let off.

Heh. I wonder how much mileage Adult Swim will get out o fthis- I expect references to the Boston bomb scare on Venture Brothers, Robot Chicken... maybe even Aqua Teen Hunger Force (Though I don't watch that one; just never managed to 'get' it).

I hope so. Far too often when something hits the fan like this the lower-level workers are left holding the bag while the actual decision-makers leave them hanging.

Well if they were convicted I think the prison sentence would have been 20 years, rapists don't get that much.

Yeah, the length of prison term compared to the severity of the crime is way out of whack here.
