Dreamcast PC Case Mod

November 27th 2008 16:16
At least they didn't screw it up by having the annoying GD-Rom drive, this baby here supports Blu-Ray.

The Dreamcast PC features 4gb of RAM, an ATi Radeon 3200 HD GPU, HDMI output and 160gb storage, it cost $1,045 USD to manufacture (and with todays exchange rates god knows how much in AUD).

WHY? WHY? Can someone please tell me just WHY? Why do people prefer Macs over PCs? Why do people want to pay $700 more for a system that is effectively half as powerful as that of a competitors.

The cheapest Macbook Pro on Apple.com.au is being sold for a whopping $2700, what does it come with? Lets see, 2gb RAM, 200GB hard drive, 15 inch widescreen monitor, 2.4ghz core 2 duo, and the infamous 'super drive' (i.e. dvd burner).

Now Dell on the other hand, for just $2000, is offering an XPS laptop with 4gb RAM, 320GB hard drive, 15.4" widescreen monitor, and a 2.5ghz Core 2 Duo plus a one year warranty thrown in for good measure.

In every single point the DELL completely oblibetrates the Macbook Pro, side by side:

DELL 2.5ghz vs. Macbook Pro 2.4ghz
DELL 4gb RAM vs. Macbook Pro 2gb RAM
DELL 15.4" Screen vs. Macbook Pro 15" Screen
DELL 320GB hard drive vs. Macbook Pro 200gb hard drive.

*DELL, Macbook Pro

HELLO!? Does anyone else not see the friggin price differences? The best equivalent for the Macbook Pro DELL is offering is a $1900 system that has one gigabyte of extra RAM (3gb) and 320gb hard drive, matches the Macbook Pro on all other points.

DELL Debuts New Monitors

January 4th 2008 02:50
There's an unwritten law in technology that when we have reached a peak in any given field, where pushing any further would be plain silly, what should be upgarded is not the specs but the looks. My friends, we have reached that peak with monitor sizes, it is simply impractical to carry around a 30" LCD and call it a computer monitor. DELL is well aware of this as it discovers a new way to bleed the poor ass customer dry.

Introducing the Dell Crystal LCD Monitor.

Is it truly a revolution for monitors? No. Does it push any new technological boundaries? No. Does it look unbelievably cool, perhaps even something a Macaholic would be using? Yes.

There's no use pushing the tech, just pretty it up and sell it for a premium. There we go.

Alienware Laptop - Not so Cool, More like HOT
Call me crazy if you will but I fail to see the point of a laptop more powerful than most desktop computers selling for up to 50% more than other equally powerful desktop computers.

For something the battery will die in a matter of minutes - what with that sort of power consumption, for another you won't get near peak performance when not plugged in to a power output, so for that 15 minutes the damn thing is running you'll find you're not able to use it to its highest potential

Small PC - Big Power
Sometimes I wonder why people buy expensive computers. I've brought it up many-a-times in the past, if cheap computers were made available (as new) they would sell bucket loads.

The new Wal-Mart PC costing less than $200 but being able to do the typical word editing/internet surfing has been a huge hit and the first batch has sold out. Why? Well trust someone to spin this against Microsoft but personally I think it’s all about price vs. feature ratio

Some claim Microsoft is using India as a testing ground to release a general OEM Microsoft PC (much like Apples ridiculously over priced range of Macs) but to me it screams of 'teaching impressionable young *Indian* kids to use Windows computers'.

The technology behind these education focused PCs is great, it allows for multiple mice to be connected to the one computer which obviously instantly multiplies the usability of any one PC by the number of mice it has. Unfortunately the computer itself seems to only have room for one display, so there will be a lot of multicoloured cursors on the monitor

The Expensive Mac

July 18th 2007 12:37
(All prices in AUD)

So I'm going to buy a new laptop, like always I have an annoying budget keeping me from buying the most ultimate of computers, just as well I'm not in the market for one, sticking to a maximum price of $1900 and not willing to budge above $2000 (if the deal is really good) I set out

Computer Warranty Blues

February 13th 2007 09:28
So I’m having this really big problem with a computer of mine, it’s a Medion MD8386, purchased from an Aldi grocery store (long story). Of course by big problem I mean to say the damn thing won’t turn on for more than ten minutes, why? The power supply unit is clearly very much busted.

How would that be? It goes back, all the way to the manufacturing of the fan that is supposed to keep the damn thing from over heating. It started making an extremely loud noise, like it was constantly impacting with something else while spinning. Thankfully it came with a two-year warranty. After calling the customer service people to organize a repair the technician stated that odds were it was to do with dust, that we were free to open the case and dust it

Another Apple VS PC Spoof

February 8th 2007 11:20
Definitely one of the better ones out so far, I like how the inaccurate bias actually exists PC’s way, if you get your feathers all ruffled up, hey what can I say? This is what ‘Apple VS Mac’ ads are but they always go Mac’s way.

How Easy a Mac is

February 8th 2007 10:10
So I read in the February issue of ‘Macworld’ of yet another one of those ‘from PC to Macintosh’ migrants. Jason Snell (editor) speaks of how his retired ex-executive uncle decided to move over to Mac claiming that the reason he wouldn’t move of past was because that Windows based software would not run on Mac’s and since the Mac’s switch to Intel CPU’s it has become more efficient to run Windows applications natively on OSX.

But why would his uncle move to Mac? Apparently because OSX is so much ‘easier’ to work with than Windows. The Mac Fanboys really, really, need to get their heads out of the sand if they really want to move on and properly challenge Microsoft’s dominance, there ‘once upon a time, happily ever after’ stories just doesn’t cut it, ignoring the facts does not make everything better

PC VS Mac Spoof

February 4th 2007 21:53
Apple has been going the less than respectful route with its ‘I’m a PC, and I’m a Mac’ TV ads by misleading consumers considerably.

To that end lots of folk online have been putting their own parodies of these TV advertisements up, particularly on youtube
