Digg Effect

If your website survived it you'll probably be confronted with this awful image,

Hour by hour,

The little resurgence probably occurred due to other (non-Digg) websites that were linking to the server.

Finally what I'd like to call 'the hangover effect' , if you got cocky and bought a new server you'll look at this and cry,

In total reaching the frontpage of Digg netted approximately 24000 unique hits in 12 hours.

Not to break your spirits but your podcast won't make the frontpage because well, the podcast page on Digg (http://digg.com/podcasts) sucks, it is set in stone per show rather than per podcast hence you get what you get - the frontpage is always the same.

You have much, much, better chances of getting your podcast, artwork/youtube work to the frontpage.

It isn't all luck, if the content is good you have a good chance, I've made the frontpage... about 3 times, once I was burried off it (not before I got 5000 hits), second time it was during a low traffic period on Digg (hence I just got 20,000 hits in the 24 hours it was there) but this last time, heh, I scored the big one, high traffic and everything, 45000 hits in 24 hours.

I do Digg stuff on Orble heaps, though the highest any have ever gotten was 8. Problem with Digg is you have to submit stuff the masses on Digg like, kind of sucks, unless you're an atheist, mac fanboy, left wing liberal.

Is it ethical to Digg your own blog? I might try with one of the podcast eps posted here and see if I can't get a good roll of the dice?

Looking at the Digg first few pages though, how do you find something that hasn't been dugg hundreds of times already?

Forgive the newbie questions.

It's as unethical as you want it to be, opinions differ but on the whole no one really cares unless you go through your entire blog and submit each post one after the other and have like 100 of them clogging up Digg, expect to be hated then.

Don't worry about duplicates, seriously, just submit them. I've lost a youtube video to the frontpage because someone put up the same one when more people where on (I think 11pm is the best time to submit stuff to Digg). If it helps the final step before your Digg is submitted you see 'similar' articles and if your exact same one is on there then you can just cancel the Digg.

Like I said, your blog stands a better chance than your podcast, Digg isn't favourable to podcasts, front page is clogged with the same ones since the design is different.

oh and you're going to have to keep submitting your articles to Digg, don't expect to get to the frontpage in a very long time, funny thing is it is always the article you least thought would get to the frontpage that does.

My blog has hit the frontpage three times (not the orble one), passionforgames.net is an Orble blog and it did reach the frontpage but got burried off (remember when it was on top of the list? That was cos of me baby!).

Have you seen some web pages have little "digg this" buttons on them - how do you get those?

hahahahahaha, who told you?

About a month ago I might have thought it so, but the Digg team is encouraging this sort of behavior, encouraging you to invite friends and all that. I've found it is the best and easiest way to get quality content to the front page. The great thing about digg is that it is a democracy, so if you do rig your way to the front and your story sucks it gets buried. If it is half decent, it stays. All well and good in the end.

Just note no one likes it when a high traffic website gets its mindless traffic to sign up and Digg stories just to get to the frontpage continuously, thats what we call exploitation. Not cool.
