Games Of Past For DS Present

There are some games from the past that should be ported to the Nintendo DS. Games that we want to just play again but cannot due to discontinued production.
Already there have been games from the past put on the Nintendo DS including a remake of the original ‘Resident Evil’ and a rebirth of ‘Final Fantasy 3’.
But we want more, don’t we?
I have compiled a list of games and franchises I would love to hell and back if it made an appearance on the Nintendo DS.
GoldenEye 007 and Perfect Dark
Metroid Prime Hunters proved the DS was very capable of First Person shooters with the touch screen, yet it leaves everyone wanting more. Why not with two classics from the Nintendo 64 era? Both featured exceptional multiplayer (Perfect Dark even sported co-op) and are to this day very highly regarded.
I’d say the probabilities would be fairly low of seeing either of these titles ported to the Nintendo DS, no doubt Nintendo has every intention in the world to release GoldenEye 007 on the Wii VC and Microsoft probably intends on releasing Perfect Dark on Xbox Live.
Alex Kidd
I know I’ll cop a lot of ‘say what?’'s for this one. Alex Kidd was the original mascot for Sega’s consoles before being replaced by Sonic the Hedgehog. The thing about Alex Kidd is that he never could figure out just what type of gameplay he was going for, which caused a lot of problems in terms of building up a fanbase. However Alex Kidd was fresh and original, of course back then the entire industry was fresh and original, which is why bringing him to a new era of gaming will really be something new.
I think we’ll see Halo 3 on the DS before we see this game. Sad but true, Sega isn’t at all interested in reviving this old classic, if you could even call it a classic.
New Chrono Series Instalment/Remake of Chrono Trigger
I am hesitant to seeing a new instalment in Chrono Trigger, I may be one of the few but I hated Chrono Cross, the sequel to Chrono Trigger. However if Square Enix can overcome their copyright issues a port of the original Chrono Trigger in the style of the DS Final Fantasy 3 port or even a new instalment in the series will would definitely make a lot of people very, very… happy.
I’m not sure what to make of this, it looks like Square Enix is milking the Final Fantasy series for all its worth with two Final Fantasy 12 spin offs already in development for the Nintendo DS. While the original Chrono Trigger team generally are eager to see a new game in the franchise it appears copyright disputes might kill off any chances of that happening.
Croc: Legend of the Gobbos
It is true if this game is released on the DS it would be the genre equivalent of Super Mario 64 DS, and lets face it, it’s a pretty big challenge to try and take out Mario on his own platform. Having said that Croc deserves a new game, the first two got generally positive reviews yet the franchise was discontinued completely after the Playstation.
Battle Tanx
Cheesy apocalyptic future, where a lack of women has led to global wars and psychic mutants. The original (that I am linking to) did not have a multiplayer component but the sequel did. Nothing more fun than blasting off a user guided missile and chasing down your mates tank with it and registering a kill.
This game, should it be made on the DS will definitely need to have a multiplayer component, simply put it’s the life or death of the series.
Vagrant Story
In essence this game is no more than a dungeon explorer with a modified battle system. It was developed by Square and as such reflects a high quality tried and true JRPG experience with a few twists.
The battle system could adapt well to the DS, the original involved timed button tapping, if the game was remade for the DS a combination of touch screen movements would really allow for some nice gameplay innovations.
Terranigma
This is a classic that was dead on arrival, releasing around the same time as the launch of the Nintendo 64 to only a Japanese, European and Australian (thank god) audience and skipping out on a North American release (poor American folks). Terranigma is an action-RPG from Enix, it was the third in a, what I consider, sub-par trilogy but as a game it was anything but sub-par. The games story focused more on the spiritual, around the concepts of an earth spirit, good/bad spirits fighting for dominance of the planet.
Sadly given this game is a historic relic, I doubt Enix, now Square Enix, would risk remaking Terranigma for a newer audience despite it having a healthy cult following. Hopefully at the very least the game will have a Virtual Console re-release, it really was a great game that due to its release completely lost.
Of course there’s more, I haven’t even started yet, the above I came up with from the top of my head. There is such an impressive back catalogue of games that every major developer has that could be ported for better or worse onto the Nintendo DS.

This was one of the most hideously addictive and well animated games I have ever played. Still sexy by comparison to what I see today, to be honest.
Ah, misspent youth... ;o)

I played that game on the super nintendo back in the day, didn't get very far in it sadly... I really should revisit it *someday*.
