Zombies Ate My Neighbours Remake

February 5th 2008 01:13
Well it's been a while since the release of Word Finder, I've been hard at work at another game. Not perfect (but then again what is?) but at least something different. I'm hoping I can get it finished within the week.

Until then here's a trailer,

Programming can get rather surreal when you're as clumsy as me at it. Right now my game is virtually finished save for a few 'small' problems. Well a few problems that should be small. See, theres something wrong with the code that goes beyond the code. To explain better I'm going to give a real world example of the problem I'm facing:

Imagine you go to the store to buy apples. If you buy one fresh apple then the batch of oranges you have at home will go rotten. If you buy two fresh apples then half the batch of oranges you have at home will go rotten. Now if you buy two rotten apples all the oranges at home will stay fresh and whats more, once you get home you'll find the rotten apples you bought have suddenly become fresh. Oh wait, except you look at the batch of oranges you already had and discover one of them has just transformed into a strawberry.

In all the above scenarios you go back to the store demanding a refund only to discover everything is fine, allyour apples and oranges are fresh again. You go home confused and you find everything has messed up AGAIN. You can't understand it, when you try to return your defected goods they work fine, when you take them home they stuff up.

Now you live in an alternate dimension where things should go by physical laws as we understand them here in the good 'ol third dimenion. Except they don't always work according to plan, since in this dimension your perception can often be drastically different to whats happening.

From what you understand there is a generel law that links up the apples you buy with the oranges at home. However seperate they may both appear they are connected by the world you live in. You understand it has something to do with bending space and time but you just don't get what it could possibly be thats linking up these apples and oranges in such an absurd way.

Confused? Yes, I am too, and honestly, I am on the verge of giving up this little project. I'm so close to finishing yet so far from the finish line.

Sony Jumps Into In-Game Advertising

October 31st 2007 06:11
God of War In-game Advertising
There was a time when there were no ads in my games or at least when the odd product placement went unnoticed. Then came EA which openly said it was going to add advertisements, there was generel uproar yet it was no big deal, I mean, it was pretty generic billboard stuff.

Not willing to just copy Sony is going the full mile and plans to bring video advertising into the game, in real time, in the game. Going above just product placing and static ads Sony will be using the virtual Sony brand TVs to pump out realtime ads for real products like games

Imagine you have this terrible itch that won't go away, one thats driving you nuts, yet your hands are preoccupied trying to kill the mosquito that inflicted you with that itch. For Sony, the fly is the Playstation 3s poor sales and scratching the itch is getting a good game for the system.

To that end it's no surprise that after shipping off their best bet for a real 'killer app' to retail stores Sony have adopted a... generous marketting strategy, that is 'release the damn game as soon as you have it in stock, don't wait for the release date

Gabe Newell On Apple, Sony

October 15th 2007 12:12
Game developers tend to be the grumpiest bastards you'll ever see. They work hard, get paid shit and after all that they are insluted by the bigget douchebags anywhere for small shortcomings.

So what does the fatman say thats getting on the nerves of them Apple and Sony fanboys? Well lets start with Apple

It's Like Picking Presents

July 13th 2007 16:29
Eye candy is something thats big in games, I don't really understand why, why do geeks drool over water effects in games for looking realistic when theres water everywhere that is actually real.

But people buy into it, and it's my job to provide, and provide I will. When I came across this particular webpage I thought 'HOLY COW! JACKPOT!'. It's knowledge, a free way to learn to do cool things in graphics. Sure it is run by a heartless company, but it's there, and there and good

Oh No

June 30th 2007 12:59
Most of what I'm basing my games programming on uses the concepts I learned from Frank Luna's excellent book 'Introduction to 3D Game Programming With DirectX 9.0' published during 2003. I have nothing but praise for the book, it's amazing on all fronts (though the title is misleading, it's just rendering, no games are actually programmed).

However, my problems with my work is that it had things not included in the book, no information on animations, no information on advanced texturing, nothing to do with 2D stuff, all that seemed to be the next level, not for an introduction book

Working Hard or Hardly Working?

May 11th 2007 11:51
I've been diligently working on my lil 'ol project from way back and I'm pleased to report that I've made progress.

Progress within the context of it supports some pretty advanced physics via an open source engine (woo, I made it happen!) though it is yet to be fully implemented what I have now is still pretty darn awesome

GT: HD Real VS Fake

May 5th 2007 05:28
Remember way back when we had these real vs fake comparisons with GT: HD but the GT: HD screenshots were taken off screen hence the comparison was low quality?

Well we now have shots taken right out of the Playstation 3 compared to real life shots, if you don't look carefully enough you won't know which is real and which is fake

Playstation Home Kicks Off!

May 3rd 2007 11:24
Only for beta testers and internal staff, I bet Ken Kutaragi is kicking himself since he'll have to wait like the rest of us until Summer. If you've successfully registered here you're also in.

There is also two new screenshots released to accommodate this 'momentous' occasion in gaming history

Woo - First Game

April 26th 2007 08:41
I figure so long as I'm going to be doing something I'm going to be doing it as best as I can, to the last breath sort of thing. Sure I could just rip off some 2D API mash it together like spaghetti and call that my 'game engine' and throw in a bunch of 2D sprites and say 'woo, go me!', I figure I may as well get straight to the fun stuff, the 3D stuff to be exact.

As of now I simply have a frame work, it isn't something you can make a game out of, most of the variables are set as default, there are a few 'cool' things like a user controllable camera but even that is 'hard coded', only way you can change the way it behaves is by going right to the source code and changing out the numbers, it's just not cool like that
