Worlds first HD-DVD Burner for Mobile PC's
Measuring at only 128mm x 12.7mm x 126.1mm and weighing in at 170grams this little midget of a drive can slip into tight spots making it the obvious if not (at time of writing) only choice for laptop based HD-DVD burners.
As expected aside form the ability to read and write to both single and dual layer HD-DVD disks it can also read and write to all major disk formats, including CD’s and DVD’s.
This is no doubt a significant development in the Blu-Ray/HD-DVD format wars which is really just starting to heat up. Sony is releasing the Blu-Ray drive equipped ‘Playstation 3’ game console very soon while Microsoft plans to counter that with the HD-DVD drive add on for the Xbox 360.
Samples of Toshiba's little midget will be shipped by the end of this year, expect to have it on your lappies (AKA laptops) the first quarter of 2007.

I'm guessing, high-density DVD, and that it can hold more information. If so... how much more info than a standard DVD?
And can it be played on all standard DVD machines?

It basically is a desnely packed dvd though, so yeah.
No, they wont run in a standard dvd player, think of them as the next leap in laser disk technology, widely considered as a redundant leap, and I agree with that. Sure the picture quality will be supposedly better, but bleh, DVD's have good enough quality as they are.
It has one competitor in the form of blu-ray which can store almost 2x data on it but is slightly more epxensive. Think betamax VS VHS with lots of blood and guts.
