Its a problem, if the popular post list should be defined by the amount of visitors, comments and votes combined where they are all separate entities but should also take into account mob rule and other such elements that impede the system.
The idea of a 'popular' post is one where people are actively engaged in discussion. Comments are a big part of that, especially to new visitors.
The vote button was initially offered to give non-vocal vistors a chance to show their support. Do you think this system is improperly structured? I'm interested in your opinions!
I think there should only be one post per blog on the top 20 list at a time, I don't like it that way but as it stands we have... this little micro community thats always finding its way to the top and not to take a stab at them but their content is all fairly similar hence it probably does impede on Orble's image.
I think having a dual voting system is just one problem, but I do have to wonder why we need the 2nd/comment vote bit at all - aren't the standard votes by button enough?
Going along the same lines as Ahmed, one major annoyance I have is with certain bloggers taking up a lot more room than others. I'm usually pretty happy just to have my posts sit on the front page of Orble for a reasonable amount of time after posting to let everyone know they're there, but certain people do like to hog the page a lot by putting up multiple posts all around the same time which pushes everything down the list much faster.
Now I understand that for some people this is the way it happens depending on their blogs, eg. celebrity news etc, but there are some out there who will just seemingly post for post's sake if you know what I mean.
I know running Orble is a hard job all around and no system is ever going to either be perfect, or make everyone happy, but there needs to be more of an equal balance between everyone.
One thought just popped into my head now, I don't know if it could lead to something or not, but anyway..... because I know that you guys like us to have many posts each day as well, but what if you were limited to say having 3 posts per day listed on the front pages etc of Orble, with any other posts added for that day put in a sub heading under their 3rd post???? Sort of like how Google ask if you want related searches under their result listings on a search???
I don't know if I'm making myself clear, or if it's even remotely possible idea or technology wise, but maybe somewhere along the line a more feasible thought could even spring from this one??????

I think having a dual system is just a bit much - if there's already a standard vote option, why should comments count at all?

Still if you think about it, removing the comments part of the vote altogether would help stop people manipulating the system - don't you think??
Maybe it's just the Libran in me, but I think the system should be fair for everyone.
