LINA - Now Thats What I'm Talking About
October 6th 2007 06:23
Lina is an open source virtual layer that allows programs compiled in Linux to run on other operating systems (including Windows). It is basically an abstraction layer that takes in the linux calls and converts them to their host operating system counter part.
It's cool because it can provide for true cross platform software without the need for recompiling with minor (or major) modifications to existing code. It's even cooler because if it does a 180 and starts getting Windows applications to run on Linux (with minimal developer head aches) it would finally be a step in the right direction in turning Linux into a viable competitor against the likes of Windows and OS X.
