Liquid Powered Batteries - Who Wants Some?

October 13th 2007 14:26
Please understand when I say 'liquid' I mean *any* liquid. Absoloutely any kind of liquid that isn't going to corrode the metallic casing of this battery is going to charge it. The battery comes in AA and AAA variants and is sold in Japan, it can be recharged for up to 500 mAh. To put that in perspective a regular alkaline battery has about 1700 mAh in it.

These May Find Themselves in a Museum Some Day...
Well it's a start, thats for sure, but what does the future hold? Well Samsung claims to have "developed a micro-fuel cell and hydrogen generator that runs on H20.". Now thats big news, and Samsung plans to put its money where it's mouth is when it releases mobile phones that use this technology. Awesome.

Suddenly dropping your phone down the toilet doesn't sound all that bad, eh?

As is just H20 -- that's it? That would be awesome..

Thats apparently what Samsung said, I actually can't find the direct quote on their website bug Google seems to report mulitple outlets reporting the exact same quote.

Just hope this isn't a hoax, sounds too good to be true. What the battery apparently does is extract the hydrogen from the water, naturally it expels oxygen which would technically be the 'pollution' it emits. It's pretty amazing, too good to be true sort of thing.

It's a great achievement if it's true... but kinda 50/50 on the green thing isn't it? No pollution is great, but what about all the extra water consumption? We are on water restrictions here in Oz...

Just playing devil's advocate...

all we need is some good 'ol water recycling and we'll be set on that front. The science and tech for water recycling is there and it has been proven recycled water is as clean (and actually cleaner) than regular tap water (i.e. the stuff you drink).

So it's just a matter of getting over the inaccurate social perceptions of the whole water recycling thing.
