Microsoft Word Glitch?

December 21st 2006 07:48
This is just one of those too weird to understand things, I believe it has something to do with debug code which got left behind.

Entering the “=rand(200,99)” (without the quotes) and pressing enter in Microsoft Word results in 255 pages of text reading ‘the quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog’.

It probably is simply debug code left over and missed in the final product.

I remembered someone was saying about that because they were testing on the function. But it is pretty cool in certain sense.

Do you also know that windows will never allow you to create the folder named as "con" ? (without the quotes)

Well they probably forgot to take it out, not like they knew it was there or not...

It only does 158 pages in my version of Word. I've been cheated!
It's a very cool trick, though.

another thing, try this same code on word 2007: 450 pages of this
On the Insert tab, the galleries include items that are designed to coordinate with the overall look of your document. You can use these galleries to insert tables, headers, footers, lists, cover pages, and other document building blocks. When you create pictures, charts, or diagrams, they also coordinate with your current document look. You can easily change the formatting of selected text in the document text by choosing a look for the selected text from the Quick Styles gallery on the Home tab. You can also format text directly by using the other controls on the Home tab. Most controls offer a choice of using the look from the current theme or using a format that you specify directly. To change the overall look of your document, choose new Theme elements on the Page Layout tab.............." come out

The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog is the shortest sentence in the english language that includes every letter. That is why it is used to preview a font.

=rand(x,y)

x - number of rows.

y- number per row.

=rand(4,1) will give you it like this:

The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog.
The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog.
The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog.
The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog.

=rand(2,3) will give you it like this:

The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog. The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog. The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog.
The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog. The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog. The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog.

It was intentional. The rand() function generates dummy text, used to test the layout and display of text. 6Similarly, if you type "=lorem()" and hit enter on MS Word 2007, it give you paragraphs of Lorem Ipsum.

The reason this has been created for testing fonts is because in this sentence, it uses every letter of the alphabet, so it tests each letter! =D

I'm using Microsoft word on my Mac. our family name in Kinlin but when I type the word into any new document and hit the space bar in automatically changes to Kilning. The same happens with the name of the town Burnley. I type th name in hit the space bar an heypresto it becomes Burley...Something to do with the spell checker but I cannot fathom it out.

Actually, it says "The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog", not, "The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog"... You are welcome for the help
