To everyone who bought the 2G iPhone, or worse, imported it from the US: Sucker.

When the 3G iPhone is introduced this summer, AT&T, the exclusive U.S. iPhone sales partner with Apple, will cut the price by as much as $200, according to a person familiar with the strategy.

AT&T is preparing to subsidize $200 of the cost of a new iPhone, bringing the price down to $199 for customers who sign two-year contracts, the source says. Apple is expected to have two versions of the new iPhone, an 8-gigabyte-memory and a 16-gigabyte-memory model with price tags widely expected to be $399 and $499.

AT&T and Apple declined to comment.

At $200, the iPhone would be within reach of a much wider consumer market and give AT&T a strong magnet to pull lucrative customers away from rivals like Verizon Wireless (VZ), Sprint (S) and T-Mobile (DT). The $200 rebate or subsidy would be limited to AT&T customers and not available through Apple’s stores. The new iPhone sold by AT&T will likely be locked or programmed so buyers can’t take the cheaper iPhone to another phone service.

In a quest to take over the world Google is now working on a universal operating system for smart phones to compete directly with Windows Mobile and the Symbian OS. At its heart the OS, dubbed 'Android', is a re-tooled Linux designed specifically for mobilephones.

Android probably won't be bringing anything revolutionary to the table but more competition is always good.

Please understand when I say 'liquid' I mean *any* liquid. Absoloutely any kind of liquid that isn't going to corrode the metallic casing of this battery is going to charge it. The battery comes in AA and AAA variants and is sold in Japan, it can be recharged for up to 500 mAh. To put that in perspective a regular alkaline battery has about 1700 mAh in it.

Well it's a start, thats for sure, but what does the future hold? Well Samsung claims to have "developed a micro-fuel cell and hydrogen generator that runs on H20.". Now thats big news, and Samsung plans to put its money where it's mouth is when it releases mobile phones that use this technology. Awesome.

Zune Phone, iPhone

Zune Phone
I confess, I really did write a stinging article about Zune way back but now I have come to realize, Zune is just like the Xbox, it started off as big and clunky but now it just might well save us from a company that has let its brand name get to its head.

While the original Zune may not have been much it was simply an entry point for Microsoft, despite many people pronouncing it DOA the fact of the matter is it hasn’t arrived, at least not in full potential

What N-Gage 2 Needs

N-Gage 2 prototype
N-Gage 2 Prototype?
The original N-Gage was (is) one of the biggest flops in gaming history, basically it demonstrated why it was foolish to try to push technology further than it can go for a certain time period.

So it is a little crazy reading about rumours of an N-Gage 2, complete with a proto-type photograph. Still, if lessons are learned (N-Gage name dumped) I think the N-Gage 2 could do heaps better than the first

It was only a matter of time before Nokia decided to bloat up its newest line of smart phones, the N76 sits between the N70 and N80. It will be smaller than any other of the N-series phones and should not sacrifice on features.

The N76 will feature a 2 megapixel camera with 20x zoom, expandable Micro-SD storage (up to 2 gigabytes) an integrated hands free speaker among other things

The ‘Nokia N80 Internet Edition’ now supports Gizmo’s VoIP software which can be downloaded for free to eligible customers. Through it users can make cheap VoIP calls over the internet through their mobile phones

Mobile TV in Italy

November 22nd 2006 20:54
P930
Samsungs new Mobile TV for Italy
A new TV mobile phone, Samsung’s P930, has been released to the Italian market through ‘Telecom Italia’.

The P930 is essentially everything you’d expect from a TV and more, it sports a 240x320 LCD screen, which is essentially a wide screen aspect ratio and PIP (picture in picture). Talk about overkill. PIP? a 240x320 screen is small enough already, why would you wan't to watch two TV shows at the same time

LCD Panel
Thick as a credit card, the worlds thinnest LCD screen
Like they weren’t thin enough already (are they ever?) Samsung has created a new LCD display screen that is 0.7mm thinner than the last thinnest and at a thickness of just 0.82mm about as thick as the average credit card.

Samsung has achieved these results by redesigning the light guide plate subassembly and the glass substrate which contributed a lot to the LCD screens thickness. By doing so Samsung's engineers were able to shave 0.7mm's off of the width of the (previous) thinnest LCD screen in existence
