Mona Lisa had every reason to be smiling
October 1st 2006 22:11
Long assumed, now practically confirmed through the magic of some sort of 3D wizwaz infrared device that Mona Lisa was wearing a thin transparent gauze veil.
What’s so special about what she was wearing? Well this kind of gauze veil was worn by women who were pregnant. Yes, you heard it right, she was pregnant. Experts always had a hunch she was pregnant from the way her fingers are bloated in the paintings (aka sausage fingers), typical of pregnant women, but unsure if it was simply the painting or in fact the masterful attention to detail of the Artist (Leonardo Da Vinci).
The researchers who made the discovery were also hoping to find out a bit more about Da Vinci’s paint style using said 3D wizwaz infrared technology unfortunately they were frustrated by the lack of paint strokes visible on the painting. It would have been very good for modern art had any big discoveries been made here, perhaps we could finally teach those ‘modern’ artists a thing or two about real art.
Isn’t it amazing that with modern technology we can now actually still discover things about all these things that were made so many years ago?
You might also know that we have seen the face on mars was not all that it was cracked up to be, it’s a shame it wasn’t evidence of some alien life form, but it’s true.
I think it is about time we backtrack to other ‘discoveries’ of the past and reanalyse them with the technology available to us, from the Loch Ness monster to Giant Squids (which has been proven to actually exist very recently).
It isn’t just rediscovering the past, it is also recreating the past. Right now with some computer games we can for instance recreate massive battles that have taken place in medieval Europe or recreate the face of Tutankhamen in stunning detail.
Discovering the past is the way of the future and it sure looks to be an interesting one.
