China’s cyber warfare army is marching on, and India is suffering silently. Over the past one and a half years, officials said, China has mounted almost daily attacks on Indian computer networks, both government and private, showing its intent and capability.

The sustained assault almost coincides with the history of the present political disquiet between the two countries.

According to senior government officials, these attacks are not isolated incidents of something so generic or basic as "hacking" — they are far more sophisticated and complete — and there is a method behind the madness.

Publicly, senior government officials, when questioned, take refuge under the argument that "hacking" is a routine activity and happens from many areas around the world. But privately, they acknowledge that the cyber warfare threat from China is more real than from other countries.

The core of the assault is that the Chinese are constantly scanning and mapping India’s official networks. This gives them a very good idea of not only the content but also of how to disable the networks or distract them during a conflict.

Awesome stuff, war that doesn't involve people dying. Still, if China and India decide to tear at each others throats the world will suck just a little bit more.

YouTorrent

January 5th 2008 17:59
YouTorrent does not host any torrents itself but rather catalogues torrents from other websites. A bit like Torrentz except it more efficiently organizes torrents. A search for Will Smiths latest movie 'I am Legend' in YouTorrent yields a list of Torrents from all the Torrent websites in YouTorrents database with a plethora of options to modify the search criteria to your hearts content. Torrentz on the other hand simply allows you to sort by a few simple options.

Oink Pig Shut Down
This Little Piggy Got Shutdown
Title long? Well good, because I am trying to express my sadness for a service (whose existence was not even worthy of a Wiki entry) which was shutdown by a global RIAA conspiricy.

So the internet is with one less bittorrent tracker, it's over now isn't it? The common argument (or more like justification) for using Bittorrent to download music is because fans are looking for a quick and easy way to get music and paid alternatives often times aren't good enough. iTunes apparently has popups and DRM (which is from what I understand impossible to circumvent) then theres Amazon which provides DRM free tracks but... well thats Amazon

Office Live, much like a certain other service, is a free online Office Suite. Just like the previous mentioned competition Office Live ties in with a universal username/password combination, basically ifyou already own a Microsoft Live account (i.e. hotmail) then you have access to this free service, albeit you still have to pre-register for it.

This step may not be necessary in the not too distant future when the software goes 'live' (so to speak

FINALLY! MySpace to Copy Facebook

October 18th 2007 13:18
Murdoch
Maaan, Murdoch Looks Scary As Shit
Before anyone gets all fuming, please, calm down. I don't care and neither should you. Facebook did a wonderful thing by opening up its platform and it's great to see MySpace following suit. Competition is good, copying is good, it's all good.

MySpace is going open platform means a lot of the widgets and gadgets that up until now only Facebook has benefited from will carry over. It will start when a list of existing widgets made by third parties becomes available to MySpace users and will carry on from there, probably with a complete SDK

Google Has Adsensed YouTube

October 9th 2007 18:24
I admit that I was a little bit sceptical when Google Adsense started employing picture based ads instead of just text based ones. While more in your face such a thing felt too intrusive and against Googles basic premise.

Looks like Google doesn't care what I think (and why should they?) as they have now added adsense to YouTube. Ads can now be tacked onto your youtube vides, meaning the random video content on your site when clicked also gives you some money

John Howard to Clean Up The Internet

September 5th 2007 07:39
I don't have a problem with laws being passed to make it a hate crime to deny the holocaust or to go around the place naked. There are, of course, fundamental laws of human decency that all humans should agree to. Unfortunately, every so often someone shows up who decides he or she knows better than everyone else, worse yet said someone is in a position of power.

Mr. Howard has decided he will provide free filters to all Australian families (provided through ISPs) to protect them from the horrors of the internet, naturally Kevin Rudd has jumped on the bandwagon, no doubt to appeal to the Christian voters. If they're going to be giving such tools to families shouldn't they, by the same line of logic provide free diapers, books, computers, clothing and whatever else it takes to raise a child

Lauren Turner, an account planner for Google, wrote on Google's health care advertising blog that "Sicko," was one-sided and said that it failed to show the health system's positive contributions such as attention to patient care and philanthropy.

Lauren Turner then further suggested that health companies take out Google Ads to combat the barrage of misinformation presented in Moores movie. This resulted in a massive backlash on the blogosphere as it was an indication that Google was taking a side on the Sicko movie, worse yet, the other side of most bloggers

Internode perhaps one of the best ISPs in Australia recently increased broadband prices blaming Bittorrent and Youtube.

However they are adding more plans to minimize what would be a massive sting

Theres a Limit To 'Freedom'

June 6th 2007 04:14
What is it with people that make them think the concept of 'freedom of speach' gives them rights beyond others? Gives them the ability to condemn other defensless groups without reason simply because of prejudice? Would sitting around watching freedom of speach in action simply be a passive way of letting harm come to those who can't defend themselves?

Where can we just say 'no, not freedom of speach or expression, shut up, get lost'? When it is adult to adult ala KKK hates Black people? No, because black people are adults too and they can defend themselves, added to the fact people will support blacks against undue hate. Freedom of speach should have its line drawn if and when people start taking it upon themselves to promote hate and attacks against a group or entity that cannot defend itself
