Old Zune Gets New Zune Features

October 3rd 2007 12:54
After announcing the Zune 2 line of MP3/movie players Microsoft has also announced that all the new features of the Zune 2 line (minus the extra storage ^_^) will also be going to the original Zune by way of a software update.

Despite a faulty start (much like the original Xbox) it would seem that bringing its software business model to the Zune (Windows 98 had been recieving updates years after XP was released) may help it win some customers and positive PR.

Keeping things easy on old consumers has helped Microsoft dominate the desktop operating business, it's now only a matter of time before we find out how well it applies to MP3 players.

Hats off to MS for doing this, but I must admit that the only reasons I have ever upgraded MP3 players was for more storage and bigger screens. Software features don't really excite me too much - how exciting can you make Play, Stop and Skip?

It's interesting how no one seems to push the basic concepts of mp3 players. Should only be a matter of time before someone figures out how to really inovate on the whole play, stop and skip features.

The new Zune 2 features are still kind of... useless considering not enough people own Zunes to really make use of its sharing abilities.

Mate, I'm still impressed by tha fact that my entire CD collection (and then some) fits in my hand.

For someone who started collecting music back in the days of vinyl, that's more than enough for me!!

iPod coverflow (for an eg) is sexy, yes, but at the end of the day I'd much rather have a CD in my hand, complete with booklet etc. Reading it off a screen isn't quite the same.

hahaha, well one o these days you'll have lots of CDs and you'll need one of those new fangled MP3 players. BUt by then they probably would have developed some obscure booklet system that dynamically creates a booklet of the CD you're listening to through some crazy bendable LCD display.
