Petition - Stop Watermarking Images!
April 25th 2007 09:33
It is understandable when a website is offering free HD movie trailers given the bandwidth and storage required does cost quite a bit, but watermarking every single image and low quality piece of crap video is just ridiculous.
Take IGN or GameSpy for instance, if you're a subscriber you should at least get the option of not having to put up with watermarked videos and images - HD or not. To everyone else, it still makes no sense why they would watermark a 1280x720 screen shot of a game, often times they are just ripped right off another website.
I've even seen poorly done magazine scans having huge watermarks - if you don't own it don't brand it as such. It isn't just game sites, websites like Zune Scene really go overboard with it.

Heck, I upload images all the time to this blog and others, I never watermark anything, in one instance it took me like an hour and a half to upload a set of images and I still ddidn't watermark any of them.
Watermarking images is mean and greedy.

If someone wants to steal your article or picture, they will, simple as that, you can't fend them off so theres no reason to fight an enemy that cannot be fought.
I dislike how software companies treat users like criminals with their crippling software protection schemes, I don't see how this is any different.

Once again, if you don't like watermarked images, pass on over it and either find another one or make your own.
