Videogames shall evolve, from the TV to…

Robots! Well it’s the only thing that makes sense. While people think we are going to be glued to our television screens from now until the end of time there is more and more reason why we are moving away, not towards our television screens.
The fact of the matter is in light of Nintendo’s plans and its subsequently overwhelmingly positive response we find that consumers are more into that interactive, rather than visual, edge.
The television will definitely have a place in our living rooms for the foreseeable future and beyond but perhaps not forever. People are caring less and less about the visual appeal, Nintendo proved it with the Nintendo DS that is still outselling Sony’s more powerful (graphically) PSP and is now showing all signs that their home console will be more popular than the two other ‘big guns’, Xbox 360 and Playstation 3.
What both the Nintendo DS and Nintendo Wii have that their competition lacks is interactivity, the DS has a touch screen and the Wii has a free hand controller. Both lack the graphical horsepower of their competition.
Videogames run off in two branches, one is that it creates a world and puts you in it as if you are part of the world (such as space invaders), the other is that it creates something completely fictional that cannot be real and lets you take control of it (such as pong). Both allow you to enjoy yourself, only in ever so slightly different ways.
Because of that we will probably see reality mimicking games in the physical rather than virtual world, such as playing table tennis with a robot, but we might also see less conventional games that don't tie in with the rest of the world around us.
One day in the future parents will be in a bit of a dilemma, their kids will be playing physical activities with a robot of sorts, so what do you say? Get some fresh air and exercise?
