Sony is Upping the Price of the Playstation 3

Contrary to popular opinion that a price cut for the Playstation 3 would do good for Sony in terms of Playstation 3 units sold it has instead raised the price.
Canadians will be paying an extra $40 for their Playstation 3’s bringing the price to $700.
I don’t recall a time ever in console history where the price of a console has actually gone up, and certainly never has the most expensive console in history shot up in price.

Most people assume Sony will buckle and drop the price, certainly isn't selling right now.
The first price drop *may* come after the release of Metal Gear Solid 4 and Final Fantasy 13 this year, provided Square-Enix and Kojima Studios find their multi-million dollar titles aren't selling enough due to a small install base.
Though the release of those two block busters will probably start shifting Playstation 3 units off the shelves hence increasing install base.
Either way, $850 and $1000 is too expensive.

Sony is not raising the prices of the Playstation 3 in Canada, that move is being made by retailers.
I guess the only way the price is going to be raised here is if retailers take the same route as in Canada.
