The Fanboy Mentality

January 15th 2007 06:23
Typical Pokemon Fanboy doing what he does best
Fanboy
I have discovered about fanboys, well not fanboys, but the mentality fanboys carry.

It’s called justification, they justify failings in the items they are infatuated with and think that is enough reason to ignore its failings. Take the Playstation 3, they rationalize its failures and think it is a justification, they state that it has a built in Blu-Ray player hence the price is justified, they rationalize that it was only recently released justifying its lacklustre titles compared to the Xbox 360.

They also use this to not listen to reason, but it isn’t so much so they don’t listen to reason it is that they don’t accept reason and justify it. Sure the Playstation 3 is bloody expensive, that's reason, but of course it is, it has a built in Blu-Ray player.

Consumers are different, they don’t believe in justifications, they believe in what they can get and how much they can get it for. They don’t give two bits that the Xbox 360 has been on the market for so long because it has a lot of great titles, they don’t care Playstation 3 has a Blu-Ray player, it still costs a lot more than the Xbox 360.

So there you have it, fanboys unmasked. What? You thought this would be a lot longer? Of course not, fanboys are simpletons.

Thats like me I justify owning the Millenium Falcon because "its the fastest ship in the galaxy".....even though it does "look like a hunk of junk"...

Guess what fanboy I am...

is a woman justified in paying $200 extra for the same pair of shoes she could get at the discount store just because it has a brand name on it?

I was focusing on technology fanboys but the woman paying the extra $$$ indicates fanwomanish

Obviously justifies that the more she pays for something the more it will be worth... I think.

I think it's a natural human tendency to want to exhibit superiority over others... you can see 'fanboy' behaviour in all aspects of life: book collecting, sailing, sports...

Is it more of a male characteristic? I wouldn't think so...

Well I would, stupid males and their aggressive tendencies...

JohnDoe:

Can you post your blog in less than twelve parsecs? Heh

Ahmed:

How would you class fans who accept (but don't ignore) the failings in our chosen passion? Example: I've always been a Trekkie- but I still recognize that the Captains in the last two Treks needed to be strapped into a Krell Brain Boost device for three weeks just to reach minimal competency. I don't justify the alleged writing the franchise sunk to- though to be fair it was often worth a giggle.

Well thats not fanboyism, you still like it and admit it has flaws without attempting to justify it and convincing yourself through justifications that it makes it all better like the problems never were there.
