The Internet as We Know it is Dead
October 30th 2006 11:14
This topic is like any other political topic, all events, people, cats, dogs, apples, helicopters, aliens, cybernetic organisms, potato’s, three legged seven eyed bucked tooth Nigerian whales of the Guatemalan deltas and/or coherence that may resemble actual news on technology are purely coincidental.
‘Intelligence’ organizations exist for one, and only one reason, to provide information to government organizations to better allow said government organizations to act. Pity most of the time this information hardly lives up to be ‘intelligent’, if ever.
So now the ‘intelligence’ agencies are looking at the internet, specifically websites in general that seems to be a threat to the free world (so-called). The FBI has done its fair share of cyber terrorist busting, interrogating a 14 year old girl to the point of tears for posting pictures defaming George Bush on her MySpace page.
An interesting note is the fact the girl did remove that picture after learning it could be a federal offense, she censored herself just to abide by the law, yet that didn’t stop the FBI from illegally interrogating her. I say illegally because it is not allowed by law to interrogate a minor without the presence of his/her guardians.
Funny thing is, given my lineage, if it was my doing I’d be in Guantanamo bay right now making all the headlines and controversies for being arrested and thrown in an infamous prison over some random picture I posted on the internet.
What makes me find this most disturbing is the fact the FBI in all honesty took this little threat with utmost seriousness, she’s just a 14 year old girl with a political opinion, a very fervent opinion, but an opinion none the less, one she is entitled to without fear of prosecution. Not by the FBI, not even by George Bush.
Anyone here who’s going to say she has any potential to do any ‘attack’ on the United States is over exaggerating to the point of mass hysteria, and I’d like to bring forward the fact to said people that inciting fear can be a crime. Anyone here who is going to defend the FBI for its actions is in turn attacking our own most fundamental civil liberties. It’s a joke no matter what angle you’re going to look at it, and you can call me a radical leftist all you want (something which I most certainly am not) but it isn’t going to change the fact that the FBI is out busting 14 year old girls.
After reading about this MySpace threat, one begins to question their original motives as to why they were browsing websites such as MySpace in the first place. Was it REALLY for threats against the United States in the first place? I can just picture a fat FBI agent donut in one hand, coke next to the monitor updating his MySpace account entitled ‘hot_chick_59XXXOOO’ and having a generally ‘great’ time catching up with *his* MySpace ‘girl-friends’ when suddenly coming across this one page, and choking on the donut ‘Marge! Marge! Come quick! Look at this! Now we really have found something!’
I fully understand and respect that it is in fact a federal crime to threaten the president with death, I also expect the same courtesy to be applied to me. Next time someone threatens me with death I’d like to be able to call the FBI, Police or anyone with a position of authority to go thoroughly interrogate them in any manner I see fit. Yes, that includes the President of the United States when he practically threatens war with anyone who doesn’t agree with him ‘You are either with us, or with the terrorists’ [sic]. Well Mr. Bush, I am not with you if it comes down to interrogating 14 year old girls to the point of tears, but I am most certainly not with the terrorists either. You are breaking your own law, you are threatening to kill me by way of war because I disagree with you, for that you should be promptly arrested, interrogated and tortured thoroughly to the point your organs fail. Hey, it’s your law, you signed it in, not me, if my organs should fail while being interrogated for it to be considered torture, then so should yours.
Websites created by ‘Islamists’ (I have no idea of its meaning, but I assume it must mean ‘Muslims’) are now the target of our (definitely not ‘stupid’) intelligence agencies. Well they never were doing anything of any use from before, I would like to draw the attention of anyone who disagrees with me to this newspaper article. I guess now surfing the net is their actual job of which they are paid to do, one can no longer blame them for not doing their work.
To put ‘islamist’ websites within context, I’d like to show a couple of websites I frequent: www.islam-guide.com and www.islamtoday.com/. Last I checked there were no calls to Jihad on either of them.
Everyday we slip further into a totalitarian state yet people defend it, history will remember these times as the days when people gave up their freedom, not fought for it, this is the first time in history such a thing has happened. One of the biggest freedoms we once had, the internet, is being used against us, against all of us and people instead of expressing their outrage opt to sit behind the TV and watch ‘Dancing With the Stars’. We, the people of these ‘free’ countries who work and raise families and abide by the laws are now perceived as a threat by the very governments we have voted in!
When it gets this far you know it will only get worse, and no you are not exempt, your colour, your country of origin, even if you are a typical 14 year old law abiding girl, you will not be exempt, you will be arrested and interrogated for something you did that seemed and was so miniscule.
You may be thinking to yourself 'Ahmed, what kind of hysteria are YOU trying to incite? You have nothing to lose in what you are saying, you are just looking for attention aren't you?'. To those people I say that I am in fact sacrificing, I refer you to this article. Wether or not you believe that article is true, I do, I am consciously writing this, knowing full well prospective employers may very well turn me off a job because of this blog post, particularly in my field of my study which will give me a job that is essentially the backbone of the IT industry.

It upsets me that the law wasn't followed here, and that she actually censored herself. And it's just scary that the Internet is being used against us in such a way.
