Toshiba announces worlds first High Capacity class 4 SD Cards
November 20th 2006 07:42
Toshiba has announced the world’s first Class 4 8gigabyte SD Memory cards. Well I have no idea why they give it such complex naming, but that isn’t Toshiba's fault (apparently).
Basically it is a flash card, like the ones you put in digital camera’s that can store 8gigabytes of data (that’s a lot of photographs). It’s called a ‘Class 4’ because it can be written to at a speed of four megabytes a second, and up to six megabytes a second.
While they have good applications in still picture cameras they also do in video cameras, they can store just over three hours of standard definition video.
They will be introduced into the market January next year.

Actually SD represents for "Secure Disk " which was introduced by jointly Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd. (Panasonic), SanDisk Corporation and Toshiba Corporation established the SD Card Association way back in 2000.
So it shouldn't be credited to only Toshiba, credit will goes to SD Card Association.
