Wii selling like Hot Cakes... with Maple Syrup

cheesy
Wow, to think these ads actually built hype!
Naysayers will always be naysayers, at first when the Wii was unveiled they said it was too small and had no HD so it was a failure, when the Wii-Mote was unveiled they said it was a gimmick, just like the DS (O_o), when the hype was building they said it would burst like a bubble, when the launch sales rocketed they said it was just early adopters (so-called fanboys), as the sales continue to rocket they claim whatever the hell they want to. But whatever they say, Nintendo will still be laughing all the way to the bank.

Only eight days on the market the Wii has sold 600,000 units, its biggest selling game is (quite predictably) ‘Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess’ with an attachment rate just over 0.75, which means approximately 454,000 units of ‘Twilight Princess’ has been purchased by Wii owners.

Demand is still strong for the Wii, shops are being sold out almost as fast as they are stocking up, in the space of its release span it has become a $190 million dollar business in the Americas alone.

The hype has become self sustaining at this point, if you want a new games console or a gift even you have to get a Wii. While the Wii rockets Sony’s Playstation 3’s demand and hype has dwindled and Sony hasn’t even shipped nearly the same amount of Playstation 3 consoles as Nintendo has Wii’s.

Is this the start of a come back for Nintendo in the home console market? Well my guess is yes, but still, early days...

I'm going to get one as soon as they come out here! Can't wait. Always been a big Nintendo fan, it's good to see them making a comeback.

Well so long as you're planning on camping out, that is if you live in a metropolitan area. Dunno how the sales will go here, there are already too many xbox 360's sold so I dunno if there would be as much demand for a Wii...

then again, this is a bit of a two way thing for me, do I want it to be a great success and be a pain int he arse tog et my hands on? Or do I want it to bea great big flop so I can get it cheap?

pre-order? depends on where you want to, I know in Tasmania it started at Electronic Boutique (it was on the news) quite sure Target has had its pre-orders.

I think you might have to look around to find a place that has pre-orders left, quite sure a lot of stores have sold out of pre-orders by now...

Personally I'm going to wait until the ps3 hits hoping a reduced price for the Wii and make my decision between the two consoles then. Surely the Wii by that time will have more titles out and each should look better competition for the other.

Not too sure if Sony intends on letting the price of the playstatin 3 drop, they want to adopt an iPod like market strategy where they release a newer enhanced fversion on ayearly basis (like the psp)...

However the price sitll might drop...
