Wii, The Solution to Fat Kids

February 20th 2007 16:09
Kids swinging the Wii-Mote around burn 40% more calories than their lesser fortunate none-Wii owning friends who hold a regular controller, this extra 40% amounts to about an average of 1,830 calories a week.

I was a bit shocked, just 40% more? Kids need to play more physical Wii games such as Wario Ware: Smooth Moves

The folks at Nintendo also have plans to release an exercising game on the Wii.

My son got a Wii for a birthday/Christmas present in December. We had the most phenomenal time laughing our butts off watching each other hop and bop all over the living room in front of the television. I must say, even I took a turn at it and worked up a good sweat! (OUT OF THE PARK!) (KNOCK OUT). After taking my turn at it, I was really impressed with the ability to provide exercise with the most popular form of entertainment.

I'm also a sucker for the Wii commercials - brilliant advertising! *SMILES*

Well you're amongst the first who likes the Wii advertising, then again those advertisements are targetted at people like you.

I'm still looking for a Wii here, they've completely sold out in every store, not that it'd do me good. Can't get one for another two weeks...

I wonder if we're seeing different ads. I'm talking about the television commercials with the kickin' music and the two guys that show up in random places and say, "Wii would like to play". Are those the same ads you're talking about?

Aimed at people like me... hmm, which demographic does that put me in? Thirty-something moms?

Yeah I've seen those ads, they are pretty much targeted at everyone who never were interested in games.

Ah, okay - at least I don't feel singled out. *LOL*

The only video game I've ever been a sucker for is SIMS, which is ironic since I hated it with a passion the first time I played it. I gave it another go, and before I knew it, I was insisting on having all the expansion packs and new editions. *LOL* I try only to play during the summer months when the kids are out of school, though.

The Wii is getting a special version of The Sims, might turn into the killer for you.

Yup, I've heard about that. When my son first told me, I thought he was pulling my chain - he's good at that. But then he brought me proof... pics in one of his gaming magazines with an ad and I was stunned. I'm not sure if I'll like it as much as SIMS2, though - the whole "weeble wobble" characters change the dynamics. I like the more realistic graphics. The "weeble wobble" characters are fine for things like baseball and boxing, but I don't think I'd enjoy them as SIMS characters.

I'm also guessing that version will be omiting the "whoo hoo" feature. *LOL* Then again, I could be wrong. It's happened before.

woops... sorry for the double whammy. It's storming here and my internet connection bugged out in mid-post.

Thats alright

Well the traditional Sims may still be coming to the Wii, knowing EA it definitely will. The Sims is a cash cow of epic proportions.

I've figured out what my addiction to SIMS is, although I can't claim to be proud of it. I tracked my own behavior in my journals and when I go into "SIM MODE" is when I feel unable to control things in my own environment... not to the point of being a control freak (I don't think), but when I feel lost. It's not really a depression, but it is a psychological shut down. I go into the SIM world where I can custom build mansions and establish elaborate wardrobes, redecorate on a whim, go to college, switch careers - and I won't lie, whoo hoo in the hot tub or car! *LOL* That's the draw for me. (The only cheat I use is turning off aging). At the same time, it allows me to go "brain dead" or to switch over onto auto pilot.

My son has tried desperately to get me involved in other games and they just don't have the draw for me. He thought my enjoyment of playing deity would attract me to... what's it called, "CIV"? Where you build your own civilizations... but it was too much like a board game, too many instructions, and it didn't take with me. He also tried to get me involved in another game with elves and faeries since he knows I love that realm - but it required reading missions and maps on nearly every screen and I prefer not to have to "think" when gaming. How's that for the ultimate in lazy?

I did spend about two weeks with Pet Vet. I was checking it out before my daughter played it, but then came to a point where I couldn't advance. I HATE that and will keep at it until I figure out what I'm doing wrong, or what I haven't figured out to do right. As it turns out, the game had a glitch that required a patch to fix, and as soon as I repaired it, I realized I had gone as far as the game could go and lost interest.

Years ago, on the original Nintendo, I was a sucker for Tetris, but even moreso for Zelda. I'm not sure why Zelda lost its charm for me, but it's just not as "magical" as it once was.

SIMS is a psychological escape for me, but other than that, I guess I'm just not cut out to be a gamer.

ah yes, it's the controlling thing for you then, thats breaking new ground.

Up until now everyone thought games like the sims were popular due to their lack of objectives and easy gameplay. Even if it applies in part your driving factor is different.
